  • Balla Giacomo, 188. Paper studies for Futurist sculptures. These constructions are three-dimensional multipleplane conceptions made of flat cut-outs niched together and polychromed. Some of these asymmetrical shapes were inspired by actual flowers and as sculpture, they were meant to represent flowers. Others are more utilitarian in design, such as the table supported by the cut-out figure of a man (center). In the right background is a construction of the number 2
  • Balla Giacomo, 189. This small floral form, measuring approximately 13 inches high and 9 inches wide, was one of the original series (1918-1930) of painted wooden sculptures constructed of flat units inserted into each other, easily mantled and dismantled. The basic units were of relatively simple shapes, and thus could be easily manufactured in quality as Balla´s intention was that Futurist sculpture would be readily avaiable to the public. The emphatic stylized forms used in some of the flowers are similar to the dynamic "lines of force" in this paintings
