This sculpture synthesizes the Futurist assault on everything belonging to the past. The dynamic image produced by the interpenetration of geometric forms represents the forces emanating from the moving figure of Boccioni and his fist in tension. It illustrates most successfully Balla´s prescription for the material conception of the complesso plastico (plastic construction) under the category of Decompositions in the "Futurist Manifesto: Reconstruction of the Universe" (March 11, 1915)
