Patriotic Hymn
- Author of the reproduced work: Balla Giacomo
- Caption: 146. Patriotic Hymn (1915). Oil on canvas, 43 1/4 x 65 inches. Collection Balla, Rome. This painting was inspired by a public demonstration in the Piazza di Siena (open arena) in the gardens of the Villa Borghese. Interventionists had called for Italy to renounce her alliance with Germany and to intervene in the war on the side of England and France. The towering rectangular forms which are painted in red, white and green - the colors of Italian flag - represent the patriotic hymns sung by children at the rally. A beam of golden sunlight enters from the upper right corner of the painting
